About the workshop - starts at 4pm - finishes at 5.30pm
Ashtanga is a very dynamic and athletic form of hatha yoga, made up of six series or levels, with a fixed order of postures. It is rooted in vinyasa, the flowing movements between postures, with a focus on energy and breath. While it is a very physical practice, it also promotes mental clarity and inner peace. The sequences keep your mind focused, which means it is great for those who struggle to switch off or relax their busy mind. We will be breaking down ashtanga yoga and starting at the very basics, then working up to a sequence and incorporating the breath with the movements.
THIS WORKSHOP IS MIXED-ABILITY BUT WITH CAUTION - PLEASE READ - you can attend this workshop if you are new to yoga, but you must be in reasonably good fitness health to attend - please do not attend if you have any of the following:

This is a mixed-ability workshop but beginners take caution - this means that adaptations and variations will be given for some parts of this workshop to suit everyone, but it will challenge your fitness - it is faster pace than your regular yoga classes whereby we will be doing a lot of getting up and down off the mat with consistent flows, and being on our hands quite a bit. It will be instructed at a steady pace, and we will have pauses and breaks. There will be props to use such a chairs, blocks and belts and you can go at your own level if any aspect is too challenging, or if you want a rest. There is no pressure at this event to over-push yourself, so please enjoy it and take it easy.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy, free movement. Extra layers is also important to bring in case it's chilly, although in some parts of the workshop, you may get hot. The hall will have heating, but it's always good to have backup. Bring a bottle of water with you so you can stay hydrated - there is a kitchen to refill water bottles. If you need an inhaler, you must bring it to the workshop. If you take any medication during the time of this event, please remember to bring it and inform us of any medical conditions when booking. There will be mats, blankets and cushions at this workshop, however if you have a yoga mat, we ask that you bring it in case we get a high number and all the spare yoga mats get used up.
Is this suitable for me?
If you have any questions at all, or if you are unsure whether or not the workshop is right for you, please get in touch before booking. We try to adapt and cater the classes to suit most people, however if you have any disability, injury, recently recovered from surgery, or struggle physically with moving / walking, you must get in touch before booking so that we can assess if the workshop is suitable and safe for you as we may be able to come up with adaptations that allow you to participate still. There are chairs at the hall if you prefer to sit during the relaxation rather than lay down. If you struggle with loud noises/music or strong smells or bright lights, please let us know beforehand so we can discuss if there are ways in which we can make adaptations to allow you to feel comfortable at this event. There will be a diffuser with natural essential oils, so if you have allergies, asthma or your throat gets irritated easily, then please let us know so we can avoid using the diffuser.
Health & Safety
It is your responsibility when booking that you inform us of any allergies, medical conditions or physical disability (Physical disability is defined as a “limitation on a person's physical functioning, mobility, dexterity or stamina” that has a 'substantial' and 'long-term' negative effect on an individual's ability to do normal daily activities.) You take part at this event at your own risk as everything has been risk assessed and the yoga instructor is a qualified yoga instructor, but all forms of movement can have at least a small risk of injury depending on the persons body, health or past injuries. Instructions during activities will be given clearly, with adaptations and variations to suit different people, but only you can feel what is right for your body and where your own limits are. It is important you do not push beyond what feels right for you.
