A statement from Megan

"Combining Yoga with creativity is the ultimate package for happiness, peace, health and freedom. Yoga is an ancient practice that has been going for thousands of years with evidence that it can improve your quality of life, health, mindset and slow down the effects of aging. Art and creativity stimulates the imaginative part of our brain, the areas that we used a lot as children but perhaps aren't tapping into as much when we get older. My secret to keeping the brain stimulated, active and young is by exploring the arts and enjoying the process of making something unique that is your own. This is why creativity will always play a huge role in my retreats and workshops. I also like incorporate the outdoors and connecting with nature, as this roots us to our true being and brings us into the wild where our spirits belong"
About the classes
A lot of hard work goes into preparing and planning each class so that they are always different. Every pose will include different variations and alternatives so that everyone can take part. You will never be pushed beyond what feels comfortable for you, and you are not expected to achieve perfection as you will be encouraged to enjoy your own process. Listening to your body is by far the most important aspect of a yoga class. With careful guidance, you will be taught how to work within your own limits so that you get the most out of your practice.
Using props
As well as using an appropriate mat that works for you, it's vital that you feel comfortable during your practice which is where props can come in handy. These can include yoga belts, cushions, blankets, blocks and chairs. You will be shown how these items can actually enhance your experience and offer the support your body needs. You are expected to bring your own blocks however, spare mats, belts and blankets will be provided should you need to borrow any.
Sound healing
As well as having beautiful music playing, classes may sometimes involve the use of a drum at small sections of the class (usually at the start or end) and Tibetan singing bowls to enhance the relaxation experience. For retreats, a gong is used as well as other instruments to create an immersive experience. Sound therapy is said to help not only physical illness, but also balances the emotions and quiets a busy mind. Most people feel calm and relaxed following treatment which makes it beneficial in the evening before bed or when you're just feeling stressed or unhappy. It's an amazing mood-booster.
The Artistic side
Art and crafts are sometimes included within the retreats, but we also do some amazing workshops with Megan as she can teach complete beginners how to create work that they can be proud of. As a professional Fine Artist, Megan is available for commissioned work, as well as exhibiting at your gallery or cafe/shop. She has exhibited in Cambridge and Stamford as well as around Cumbria. If art is something you are interested in or inspired by and would like to learn more, feel free to get in touch or check out her Facebook page here.
